Brother Jim Whitmire was honored last night at FBC Jax for reaching his 50th year anniversary in music ministry. Terry Williams, the Florida State Baptist Convention music director, presented Jim Whitmire with a small plaque commemorating the milestone.Williams told how Jim Whitmire was an inspiration to him, when as a teenager Williams traveled with his father to the church in Merrit Island (FL) where Jim and Adrian Rogers were serving back in the 1960s, and the choir was nothing like he had seen or heard before.
Mac was very gracious, and also said something very funny, along the lines of: "Dr. Whitmire, you've served along side many great men of God, I wonder what secret sin you committed to have to end your career serving with Mac Brunson." (paraphrase).
Congrats to Jim Whitmire for such a milestone.
Jim Whitmire is top of the heap. Great guy. Knew him way back when he was at Bellevue.

ReplyDeleteThere are NO great men of God. That is such a puffed up phrase that shows a lack of understanding of the Word.
Might I add - this is another example where a positive light is shone on Mac Brunson. Bringing on Jim Whitmire was a very good and right thing to do. Kudos to Mac for that decision.

And then you read in context that Mac wasn't talking about himself but men like Adrian Rogers...and you blog about this like Mac is using a puffed up phrase.

I love the Rev. Dr. Jim Whitmire so much! He's a good choir director, a creative person and he's just a nice guy.

If there is one job in the world today that I would NOT want, it would be leading a music program in an Baptist Church, especially if I had been doing it for 50 years. Talk about a war zone!
