Normal protocol when a politician shows up at FBC Jax is to just announce his name and let him stand and wave. But John Blount took the opportunity to go ahead and lay it on pretty thick in introducing Newt:
"We have joining us tonight, uh, a grandfather, I think is probably his first priority, a father. He is a historian, he is a teacher, a professor. He is a thinker, a learner, a prolific writer. He loves America, he loves freedom. Over the last 32 years of his life, he has given public service to his country, an also too seeking the greatness of America. He has come to be with us tonight, Mr. Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, candidate for the Republican presidency (sic). And his wife Callista."
Yes, Newt loves America and loves freedom. John forgot to mention that Newt is not a Mormon. Yes, John laid it on pretty thick. A pretty strong endorsement of a candidate that you don't normally see in a Southern Baptist church so close to an important election, and I think unnecessary.
The congregation was less enthusiastic than John at Newt's presence, as they gave him a partial standing ovation.
Mac followed up John's introduction by telling Newt that Christians would be praying for Newt and others in high office as the Bible commands.
Immediately after the introduction of Newt Gingrich, Mac and Joel Rosenberg discussed bible prophecy and the Middle East, and Joel Rosenberg did Mac a huge favor. Mac asked Joel to comment on whether the current administration's policies toward Israel might be bringing war between Israel and Iran closer. Joel very wisely said it was not appropriate for him to address such a question from behind a pulpit, that Christians need to explore those issues based on the candidates and then choose whom they would vote for.
Nice work, Joel! You saved Mac's hiney there.
The finale included men in kilts, and a few great numbers by combined adult and youth choir and orchestras, and a fabulous song by Daniel Crews.

Ok, I watched from home but somehow missed that part..ha. The music was INCREDIBLE...I loved the music. cindy t....ha yeah i'll use my name.
ReplyDeleteMan , what a video, a blond in a red dress, not all would stand for the ovation, but Mac looks terrible.
ReplyDeleteNow who am I to vote for?
Always trying to stir up the dawg poop!
ReplyDeleteBlount did not almost endorse him. Again this blog jumps to conclusions that simply don't exist. Read what he said.
ReplyDeleteThat is your opinion. My opinion is that his introduction was an endorsement of sorts. Never has a national candidate shown up days before an election and had an ordained minister of FBC Jax give them a glowing introduction.
ReplyDeleteNot a "conclusion", just an "opinion".
:)
Has anyone seen Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, or even Rick Santorum at FBC JAX?
ReplyDelete"Romney lead over Gingrich up in Florida: Reuters/Ipsos poll"
I am voting for Newt and if you want to vote for a Cult Member, go right ahead.
ReplyDeleteJesus is watching you.
Never has a national candidate shown up days before an election and had an ordained minister of FBC Jax give them a glowing introduction.
ReplyDeleteYou must have missed Mike Huckabee's appearance at Bellevue in February 2008. Someone or several someones planted Huckabee 2008 signs along the streets around the church where they remained until after his appearance.
Or (obviously not a national race) Tennessee gubernatorial candidate, Zach Wamp, in 2010. There was much gushing, unlike the reception for another Republican challenger, Ron Ramsey who got the obligatory introduction and nothing more.
Anon - go ahead and vote for Newt - but some say he is a cult member too.
ReplyDeleteI'll vote for my cult member whose church says Joseph Smith found secret golden plates in upstate New York, you vote for your cult member whose church believes that the cracker and the juice actually become the body and blood of Jesus Christ during the Lord's Supper.
And then we can vote for Mike Huckabee who believes that the donkey talked and Jonah lived inside the whale.
Just poking some fun at ourselves here. Don't you see how silly it all seems to be making their religion a factor?
:)
I am voting for Newt
ReplyDeleteYou should do some study on Newt to understand him. He is not what you think he is.
I swear I hear boos....
ReplyDeleteI definitely believed the donkey talked because I read this blog every day and that's living proof that it can happen.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is one of the best comments in a long while!!! Very funny!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a christian I am also a scotsman. I also attend FBCJax. I love my God,family,my church "AND" my country. Awright, areddy, so Newt has messed up a couple of times. I believe he has already asked God to forgive him and as Jesus once told the pharisees, "Let him without sin cast the first stone!!' I am Dennis Wilson and I also am not afraid to use my name
ReplyDeleteI believe he has already asked God to forgive him and as Jesus once told the pharisees, "Let him without sin cast the first stone!!' I am Dennis Wilson and I also am not afraid to use my name
ReplyDeleteare you saying Newt is a pharisees. In those days the pharisees and sadducees were the republican and democrats of the day.
Hi Dennis - welcome to the blog. I Newt, always have. I like Romney better but would love to have Newt or Santorum against Obama. I think Romney has a chance against Obama and that Gingrich would have very little chance.
ReplyDelete"I am Dennis Wilson"
ReplyDelete"....and I approve this message"
"I think Romney has a chance against Obama and that Gingrich would have very little chance."
ReplyDeleteI agree, but it would be nice to merge Newt, Rick and Mitt into one homogeneous candidate and throw in just a pinch of Ron for added fun and spice.
Now that would be a candidate that could for sure win the White House.
I am a very conservative baptist pastor. I was at the conference. First, Rick Santorum also made an apperance at the conference on Thursday afternoon. More importantly, it sickens me to see how far we have fallen. To support a narcissistic, baptist to catholic, adulterer is an amazing jump for most of Newt's supporters. If this were Bill Clinton, all of his supporters would be moaning and groaning. God may have forgiven him, but that doesn't qualify him to be the president and role model for our country. For me, I would rather support an honorable family man who lives by Christian principles, even if he is a morman. God can defend Himself, even if a morman is president.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Christians in Scotland have just as much trouble interpreting scripture in context as they do in America.
ReplyDeleteIf your interpretation were correct, you would be wrong in casting the first stone at WD.
Congratulations WD, for crossing the million mark of visitors (1,000,531 visitors) to this blog.
ReplyDeleteI was at the conference this past week in Jacksonville. Hands down, it's the best one I've been to. Challenged, equipped, encouraged, admonished and filled-up - - I am so grateful to FBC Jax and this conference.
ReplyDeleteSantorum was at the conference as well, I did not hear an endorsement for Newt from John and I was there live. There was polite applause and then it was back to the schedule.
I know that you have bashed The Elephant Room showing, but I wanted your readers to see the other side of it. Here's a blog entry that might explain what we saw and why I was really impacted by the discussions I heard. http://jamesmacdonald.com/blog/?p=11180
The conference was incredible with great worship, beautiful music and some powerful testimonies and well-divided Scriptural teachings.
Todd
Did anybody mention that Newt was a Baptist once upon a time while married to his first wife? A guy married three times and being introduced to a group of preachers as a model for American citizenry. Where have we gone? Did anybody mention that he was denied tenure by the college where he taught?

I don't care who gets nominated, as long as they beat Obama
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing and this blog do make me glad I'm no longer a Baptist.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean Mac looks terrible???
ReplyDeleteThat's the thinnest I've ever seen him!
I will second that.
ReplyDeleteGod help us. Newt Gingrich is a globalist/socialist to the extreme and will surely help usher in the mark of the beast, as those who are semi-conscious understand that the entire world economy is being collapsed as we speak.
ReplyDeleteIf you thought Obama took a wrecking ball to this nation, (don't like him either) wait until this yo-yo gets in.
This nation is riddled with deceived, brainless Christians who think gays and abortions are the sum of everything wrong in the world. That isn't true anymore than it's true that if you give your millionaire pastor a tithe, Jesus will bless you with riches.
No....YOU/us people are the reason this country is being judged, based on your collective stupidity and heartless treatment of other people. You think nothing but of yourselves and go around promoting some dufus because he parroted the only concepts you can grasp -- gays and abortions. Brawk Brawk...like a bunch of mindless parrots.
Wake the HADES up, people. Research this stuff on your know and know what you are voting for.

"Newt Gingrich is a globalist/socialist to the extreme and will surely help usher in the mark of the beast..."
ReplyDeleteOh. Brother.
Sometimes a "Christian" in the voting booth can be as scary as a left wing socialist.
God hates the Morman faith ( I DID NOT say that God hates Mormans!).
ReplyDeleteMitt is a TITHING Morman..(His 4 million tithe is going to further this cult)
A vote for Mitt is a vote for Joseph Smith.
"Sometimes a "Christian" in the voting booth can be as scary as a left wing socialist."
ReplyDeleteLOL - true dat! Esp. when they are Southern Baptists.
"Newt Gingrich is a globalist/socialist to the extreme and will surely help usher in the mark of the beast, as those who are semi-conscious understand that the entire world economy is being collapsed as we speak."
ReplyDeleteNo warning of the Illuminati?
How about the Trilateral commission? And we are back to playing pin the tail on the Anti-Christ. Where is my tin foil hat?
Wing Nut.
"A vote for Mitt is a vote for Joseph Smith."
ReplyDeleteSo, is a vote for Newt, a vote for Jesus. I think not.
Flawed logic.
"God hates the Mormon faith "
ReplyDeleteThat's what those God Agents called pastors have interpreted the God to have said.
And they also teach:
God hates Bloggers,
and Gays,
and Divorce
and Drunkards
and it goes on and on my friend...
And you thought it was a religion of Love
I believe America is at a crossroad. We had pride in our family, our church, and our country back in the 1940's and 1950's if you are like me who can remember leaving your doors open at night, enjoying a Bible preaching and believing pastor who really cared for the people and probably didn't make more than $75 a week.
ReplyDeleteWe have come to this point in time when family is abandoned, marriage is not held in high esteem, people stay at home rather than attend church (many for good reasons) and the government is spending us into oblivion.
We need to pray for our leaders to get right with God. It must first start with us and the pastors of America if we are ever to return to the America of the past. This modern group of evangelicals is more interested in ego and huge salaries than the people they are supposed to be shepherding. Many no longer believe in the Bible. A number do not hold to traditional facts....Trinity, eternal salvation, blood of the cross, great tribulation, second coming. They prefer not to hurt someone's feelings and had rather teach a feel good message that borders on trivia. So much trivia that the early church fathers would wonder how the message and good news has been forgotten.
People...we need an old fashion revival. Where are the preachers who use to hold revivals. They too have become scarce and hard to find. I say lets get on our knees and cry out to God to heal our land.
Pastor and blogger Howell Scott writes article about Gingrich's appearance and the John Blount introduction at the Pastor's Conference. A baptist pastor agrees with the Watchdog.
ReplyDeleteSatan is having a field day this am.
ReplyDeleteWe will soon have a Cultist wearing holy underwear in the Oval office.
He will have baptisms for the dead in the White House Pool and will have the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing praises to Joseph Smith in the National Cathedral.
Our nation had the Bible as its foundation not some golden tablets found in New York State.
Now in America there will be....No coffee, no hershey candy, no tea, and no way on God's green earth would I support a Man that believes this science fiction of Latter Day Ain'ts...HOW SAD!
Anon 8:30 - did you ever read W.A. Criswell's sermon about the dangers of electing JFK, a Roman Catholic? Your nonsense and fearmongering sounds just the same.
ReplyDelete"We will soon have a Cultist wearing holy underwear in the Oval office."
ReplyDeleteRomney hasn't won the nomination yet and then he has to defeat Obama - which is not certain by any means.
You are getting a little ahead of yourself aren't you TROLL?
Help me out here - Bruce Peterson, from Dallas, Texas was introduced as a MISSIONARY whose traveled all over the world.
ReplyDeleteComw on people Peterson has been a a "Travel Agent", for years, and years and one of Brunson's favorite vendors!
Question:
ReplyDeleteI want to know how the Southern Baptist teachers of first fruits tithing can explain Mitt Romney's excessive wealth.
If he's been tithing to a cult, then how is he so blessed ?
He showed up late...
ReplyDeleteGot recognized...
Left before finale.
Rude. Just sayin'.
Ralph Messer Desecrates another Torah Scroll
ReplyDeleteRabbi Ralph Messer takes a 400 year old Torah scroll from Ethiopia and passes it around the congregation.
Interesting comment I received via email from preacher in a foreign country:
ReplyDeleteDear Dog:
2000 years ago a Baptist called John went to prison.
He would not endorse the politician of the day that was an adulterer. He paid the ultimate cost for his stand.
He did not seek the praise of men but lived a life for the praise of God.
John set his mind on things above, not on things and kings on the earth.
Matt 11:7-10 KJV
7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
We need a John to take a stand again and then we might see some revival.
