Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral has hit the skids. Family turmoil, lawsuits between family members over millions of dollars, Catholic Church buying the property, arguments over gays in the choir, family members hired and fired.
Now their Senior Pastor, Sheila Schuller Coleman, has announced that she is leaving the Crystal Cathedral to start her own church.
Watch the video above of Sheila Schuller Coleman, and you'll see what her new church might be like.
And you'll see why Crystal Cathedral has been in turmoil since the elder Schuler departed.
And you'll see the best case against church nepotism ever caught on camera.
And no, this is not a Saturday Night Live skit spoofing a Crystal Cathedral church service, it is an actual service.
Note: I have repented of my criticism of Perry Noble after watching this video.

ReplyDeleteThis is a prime example of the church in America which is fracturing into what the late Michael Spencer called "the post-evangelical wilderness." ooh,ooh,ooh,ooh,oohh.....
LOL! I was channel surfing last Sunday afternoon and stumbled upon this very service right at that point. I used to watch the music portion of the Hour of Power occasionally, and sometimes Daddy Schuller would have an interesting guest speaker, but I hadn't watched it in ages when I saw that. That was my thought exactly... no wonder the place has gone belly up! The gravy train may have stopped for the Schullers at TCC, but they've laughed all the way to the bank for years. If they've saved wisely they should all be set for life.
ReplyDeleteNoble, Driscoll, Furtick, Young, Gaines, Brunson (who is tame by comparison)... the church in America has turned into a big joke!
Next week's sermon will be titled: "Whistle While You Work" and she will be dressed in a giant cricket outfit.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't realize how bad things were in worship there. That's just bad 80's music with a better back beat. No wonder everyone is claimer for hymns in that place! At least the hymns have substance.
ReplyDeleteWith the exception of calling it "God's work" I think Mac's retweet of Ronnie Floyd sums it up:
ReplyDeletemacbrunson: RT @ronniefloyd: May the testimony: "We have never seen anything like this!"(Mark 2:12), become the testimony today about God's work thr ...
Indeed.
The lives of the Rich and Religious!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to think what would truly feed my soul on Sunday morning at a church. Maybe dignity, ritual, some classical music, quietness.
I don't need a shallow pep talk about positive thinking. I don't need false promises and lies. I don't need to be yelled at about hell. I don't need a show and hypocrisy on display.
How far the CC has fallen. I didn't agree with much of Senior's theology, but there services were classy and well done. This is a joke.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a service I watched a little of yesterday here in the Metroplex, where the music minister turned around to his choir at the end of a song and motioned for them to start applauding. So there would for sure be applause by the time the last note was played. How far they have fallen, too.
She is fully qualified to be a pastor at any mega-church anywhere in the United States. Is Bellevue looking for an associate? She might even take Gains job after he or junior retires.
ReplyDeleteI hope she has a really good trust fund or she will be going hungry.
ReplyDeleteThis is wrong on so many different levels.
Her only hope is to become a Methodist Preacher.
I saw one on Easter several years ago preach in an Easter Bunny outfit.
Watching this reminded me what scripture says about false prophets. There are so many of them.

ReplyDeleteIs she an Episcopalian?
ReplyDeleteYou know what they say....
Everytime you see 4 Episcopalians.....
You always see a 5th!
I hate to see these Women Preachers drinking like this.
It is so sad.
Not that you really wanted to know, troll, but perhaps someone else is curious.
ReplyDeleteThe Schullers were ordained in the Reformed Church in America.
"I hate to see these Women Preachers drinking like this."
ReplyDeleteHey, the TROLL finally found a preacher that he can find fault with.
The TROLL defends decade-long serial liars, hypocrites in the pulpit and sexual abusers. As long as they are MEN, they are GOD'S MAN!
But being female. Now that is the unforgivable sin!
Oh Dear Lord, a jezebel in action, yes she needs to repent lest a curse come upon her and the congregation needs to repent, lest they go down with her...wake up people..ty for sharing
ReplyDeleteAnonymous from 3-12 @ 6:20... That was very funny! Ironically, though, that painful episode aside, the message of the CC has become more Bible-based and. Christ-focused, even as they - for a variety of reasons - have sunk like the Titanic.
ReplyDeleteI really feel for their current worship pastor. He walked into a no-win situation and has as far as I know been nothing but classy and humble. And I appreciate all the choir members who hung in there through the horrific decline of the choir. I would have stayed with mostly traditional music and snuck in a big contemporary praise song now and then, but I don't think the worship pastor has been given a lot of choice!
The whole thing is sad and tragic. Robert II is a great preacher who is a bit more evangelical than his dad, had a great vision for ministry and may have navigated the challenged ministry into new chapters in the life of that church. Too bad!
If anyone, who actually knows the most basic Word, and doesn't see, where we are and how close to the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is, truly is spiritually blind! I'm no bible scholar and probably not the most bright bulb on the strand. If i can see it, and know that i have to pray that i am found worthy to escape all these things. Luke 21:36, how much worse are things going to get? This one was pretty easy to call out, but what about the things that are so much more deceiving than this crystal cathedral junk! True beleivers! Keep your lamps filled and your wicks trimmed!! It's gonna get really dark out there!!Here's a new song! Jesus told us there'd be days like these!!! There's be days like these Jesus said, Jesus said, Jesus said!
ReplyDelete(am i giving away my age here!! lol)
I believe it is impossible to "hit the skids" when the church began without a Biblical foundation. It seems they are "celebrating the skids".
ReplyDeleteCrystal Cathedral = Church of Thyatira
ReplyDeleteLame-o singing and preaching (like this comment)!
ReplyDeleteWhat's sad is that this used to be the kind of nonsense that evangelical churches rightfully ridiculed. Now, you can see this same kind of foolishness in the evangelical megachurches of America. I once attended an evangelical megachurch where the music director often integrated secular songs into the (goofy, vapid) "contemporary" worship music. I'll never forget the sight of congregants raising their hands in praise to the refrain of U2's "With or Without You" - "And you give yourself away, and you give yourself away...." They must have repeated it at least 20 times, with the intensity and volume increasing each time until by the last time some of the hand-raisers were about to explode with fervor.
ReplyDeleteI just relived my days at elementary school.
ReplyDeleteWow. lol
