Mega churches are all about theatre.

I understand. But work in mega churches and you will see that it is a very slick Hollywood style of production. In some, even planned jokes for laughs are carefully inserted with care of timing in the 3pt proof texted sermon because laughs get attention back. Emotions are manufactured for effect. Some use fear tactics. All of it is manufactured to elicit a response. Where is the Holy Spirit?
I have seen it all. It is chilling.
To say this "building" is for the glory of God reminds me of the tower of Babel.
Dorky is the new excellent at FBCD. Everything they do is now scripted, cheesy and phony. And those who remain there are eating it right up. This was just an outward expression of an inward implosion that began 3 years ago.

ReplyDeleteI don't go to FBC Dallas or any mega church for that reason....but I have been in there building. It is a modge podge of extremely old office buildings that simply were made to work for the church. I can see why they would want a new building. When I was there it took at least 20 minutes to get where I was going, through a series of falling down hallways and up and down different ancient elevators because the floors don't connect from building to building....it was kinda a mess.

I am sure there new plan is quite overboard but my point is they were in need of a new building.

I am sure the poor, hungry, needy, orphan, and widow will agree with you. :) They will just have to get whatever is leftover. Not to mention the future costs to maintain and air condition and heat and staff the new building. Jesus wept.

Joel Gregory writes about this in his book, "Too Great A Temptation".
He also pointed out Criswell's FOUR elaborate offices in that hodge podge. Each for a different purpose depending on who he was meeting with. And of course, each office required staff.
I guess it never occured to them to renovate. I have been there and know what you mean by the hodge podge but I am also listening to Jeffries words about the new building and he is as man centered and materialistic as you can get.
