Prepare Ye the Way of the Cult: Eddie Long is Literally Annointed, Lifted High, and Worshipped as King

When the supposedly Jewish man visiting Eddie Long's church this weekend presented a supposedly 300-year old Jewish scroll to the congregation, and proclaimed: "Now I'm gonna pull the foreskin off of this..." I knew things were only going to go downhill from there.

After the "foreskin" was removed from the scroll and it (the scroll) was stretched out for all to see, this Jewish speaker and the New Missionary Baptist Church proceeded to do something that even the cast of Saturday Night Live would not dare to parody: they dubbed Eddie Long as a king and a prophet, and literally lifted him high and paraded him on his throne before the congregation as the anointed one.

Readers, I'm not kidding. You can watch the video below, and things get really interesting about 5 minutes into it.

Here are some excerpts from the video, of the Jewish man speaking the annointing over Eddie Long.

As they literally wrapped Eddie in the uncircumcised scroll, the Jew says:

"He is wrapped in the word of God. He's sealed by the blood of Messiah. He is sealed to come out with a new anointing. The kingship within him, the power within him, is going to come out. It doesn't matter where you go, no matter how you try to attack him, you can't attack him, he's sealed, wherever he walks, wherever he turns, the power of God is in him. As we open this up, every ambassador, every king, this is done to every king. Open it up, he is hidden in the word of God."

Then, they peeled back the scroll, Eddie is seated on a chair, and the Jewish man continues:

"He is now seated in a position of power and authority. He is given within him a belt. On one side is justice, and the other is blessing. He now is given the constitution of God as a king. I give this to you. bishop as a sign of covenant, as a sign of release, as my sign of love for you."

Then, four men come forward representing the four corners of the earth grab the four legs of the chair and lift him high in the hear and parade him around the platform to the screams and applause of the congregation.

The Jewish man continues the nonsense:

"He now is raised up from a commoner to a kingship...now walk him around. Come on! Come on, praise God! He is no longer a commoner, he's not on the earth, he's raise from earth to a heavenly realm. He's raised in a prophetic position. He's released by God. He's breaking pagan traditions...he's releasing Atlanta, Georgia. It's not him, it's the king in him."

They then all break into song, chanting: "Prepare ye the way of the Lord." I think they meant "Prepare ye the way, of the Cult."

I'm not kidding, this really happened.

What was this all about? Easy. It was about Eddie Long getting a fresh new start as the big cheese at his church. Here are the concluding remarks of the Jewish man:

"Praise God! I can't hear ya! We've got a new wind, a new anointing, a new start, a new kingdom....this is the word for Atlanta, sing it again....'prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way of the Lord'...come on church...it's a new start, it's a new birth, it's a new birth, it's a new birth! Your name has never meant more than this moment. God gave the name of this church 'New Birth' for such a time as this."

I know what you're saying: this is extreme, this is ridiculous, this would never happen at MY mega church. Well, to that I would say that this video shows just what depths a church can sink to, just how great people's thinking processes can erode, when they subject themselves to the teachings of a "man of God", a rock star preacher who twists the bible and convinces them that it says things it does not say.

Thank you, Eddie Long and unnamed Jewish anoint-er, for showing us just how low our religion can go when we follow men who use the bible for their own gain and personal gratification - and who have a fascination with Old Testament rituals and laws.

Prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way of the Cult.

  1. Maybe some good came from this. Like SBC mega churches, or the emergents, using something like this as an "ordination" service when they hire the new mega church pastor.

Vote for the new "man of God, then bring out the OT scroll, remove the foreskin (on the scroll), wrap new pastor in scroll, say a few words, unwrap him. Sit him on a throne. Give him a belt and a religious scarf, then have the prez of the trustees, the vice prez, the chair and vice chair of the deacons lift him and parade him around the church while we sing "prepare ye the way, of the Lord."

Brings tears to my eyes just to think about it.

Since really it is impossible to make this stuff up it is so bizarre, why not consider something that might be unthinkable, but remotely possible:

How about a circumcision ceremony for a pastor, by a Jewish rabii? Why not? How more "Old Testament" ritual can you get than that?

You know WD - when I see/read things like this the more and more I'm embarrassed, if not ashamed, to say I was raised or had any affiliation with the baptist church in any form or version in recent years.

I often refer to myself as a recovering southen baptist - I've pretty much washed my hands of the sbc excepting one church here locally in Knoxville,TN.... there's one that still has a little sense and on occasion a memeber or two can give that a run for the money. Add to all this the fact that I'm and organist and rep for a pipe organ company and it's even worse in some respects. You know that organ, organist, pipe organ are all considered the equivilant of four letter words in baptist churches these days.

Oh well..... guess I could tell more but we'll wait for another time.

  5. Unless Eddie Long's church is Southern Baptist; not sure what ol Eddie is doing has anything to do with FBCJax or other large Southern Baptist churches.

I don't care about this....African American churches do this stuff all the time.

  8. I don't know but this comes close, but there was the passing of the Mantle to Steve Gaines at a Southern Baptist Church, 6 1/2 years ago (things have advanced since then?):

    Bellevue Baptist Church

    Mantel on Adrian Rogers

"Rogers also placed a cloth mantle on Gaines to symbolize the passing of the torch."

    Mantel behind Foot Washing

That cloth mantle is in Steve's Church Office, right as these young men walk into Steve's office.

  9. The house looks to be packed. What worries me is that some of these idiots might be on the same roads that I travel. Now that is a scary thought.

  10. Hmm. I thought we were covered by the blood of Jesus not the Torah/Old Covenant. Unless he keeps the ENTIRE law, to its fullest extent, this showmanship means nothing.

Why would I want to be covered in lamb's skin when I am covered by the blood of Jesus? "How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!"

  11. But then, Eddie isn't a Southern Baptist so what relevance does this have to anything? Of course, its Mac's fault.

  12. Wow. How weird and creepy and silly can grown men actually get?

I just want this shown on national television. Most of us don't get to see ridiculous stuff like this and had no idea it gets this weird.

Will he be returning to the secret abuse of teenagers now? Where is his wife? Can you imagine the spectacle of watching this done to your husband or your ex-husband? lol-like the godfather! Shouldn't they have kissed his ring?

  13. Did you hear the Jewish guy call Long "humble?" Yes, a very humble man-has he admitted guilt? Apologized? Made restitution that was not ordered by a court?

If he was humble, he'd have done all of the above and now be out doing community service or something truly humble. But it's not about humility. It's about getting back in the saddle again. It's about continuing the reign. It's about sitting in a chair, holding a scroll (where all the numbers in the Bible correspond to whatever, etc.)and being lifted up into the air while someone yells "It's a new birth!" Now that's humility!

  14. At first I thought surely this must be your April 1st post that slipped out early. But then I watched the video and realized you couldn't make this stuff up. I don't envy you trying to come up with something on April 1st now. This will be hard to top.

Slightly off topic, perhaps, but what's the deal with Eddie Long's hair? Does he shave it the same length 360 degrees around his head, does it simply not grow any lower in the back (never seen this condition on anyone else), or is it a yarmulke-shaped rug on top of a shaved head? All I can think of is "large furry cow patty." Inquiring minds would like to know.

  16. Let me preface this by saying that there is no sarcasm, animus, or mockery intended in my comment.

I believe that FBC Jax Watchdog is providing a great service to the body of Christ with the exposure of these antics in the church.
Having said that, despite the speakers repeated claim that he is Jewish and has dual citizenship in Israel, I don't believe him at all. First, he stated that the Torah scroll he is using is 312 years old. Really? Any document that old --- let alone a Torah scroll retrieved from Auschwitz --- would be archived under glass in pristine conditions in a rare manuscript library or secured under guard in national museums such as the Louvre or the British Museum or their equivalents in Jerusalem. Any original scroll of that age would never be rolled and unrolled that cavalierly by any individual lest it crumble to pieces.

Furthermore its historical significance as a relic of the Holocaust would make invaluable to the Jewish community and would be treated with the utmost respect and never used in this manner by anyone who understands the significance of the destruction of the Holocaust. For someone with dual citizenship in Israel his pronunciation of Hebrew is suspect, he cannot properly sing the priestly blessing and calls over a woman do it, something which any Jew with knowledge of and respect for the law would never do.

Finally, he states that 90% of the Jews have never seen a Torah scroll. ?!?!?! I daresay this gentleman has never attended Sabbath services in a Jewish temple or synagogue. Therefore I can only presume that the scroll is a fake, as is the gentleman claiming to be a Jew.

Finally, I would like to take issue with the commenter who blithely wrote that "I don't care about this....African American churches do this stuff all the time." Let me suggest he or she should get out into the larger body of Christ in America. I have attended a number of white Charismatic megachurches during the past two decades and these activities are prevalent within the Charismatic movement as a whole. When the movie "Braveheart" was in theatres, pastors were being anointed with swords by men wearing kilts to who believed they could pronounce the blessings of William Wallace. This is endemic in the American church as evidenced by the success of TBN its many hours of programming.

OK Anon, don't lump the dawgs being hellbent on southern baptist and try to link Long's Church in there.

So let's see...there's Southern, Northern, Primitive, Hardshell, Strict and Particular, General, Landmark, Reformed, Missionary, Independent, Freewill, Pentecostal (yes,Virginia, there are Pentecostal Baptists)

  19. Oh man, I forgot that Eddie Long was the guy who made a financial settlement to the young men who accused him of molesting them. This absolutely creeps me out.

He should have been covered in green Benjamins because that was what got him out of his mess!

How did you come to the conclusion that this blog is only about FBCJAX or other large Southern Baptist churches?

I suppose when something this sick and wrong is exposed and you are a kool-aid drinker, the only thing you can do is try to change the subject.

  21. Reminds me of that verse "And the people would have it so". The only king to reappear now or in the future is Jesus after the seven year tribulation. This is a total sham and those that attended and applauded need to repent to almighty God for their behavior.

Following man will always get one into trouble and embarrassment sooner or later.

  23. This is just taking what Jon L. Estes teaches to its logical conclusion.

Estes teaches that you should never ever question a pastor (even though Paul teaches the opposite) because of the "touch not mine anointed" verse.

That verse was given to Israel's enemies (at war time) as a warning to not physically harm Israel's kings or prophets.

So, if you want to claim that verse for yourself, you need to be either a prophet or a king.

  27. I am a missionary to the Jewish people (www.tzedakahministries.org). I could not finish more than the first minute of the video as I was so disgusted by the description of what I saw and read.

I want to do some quick corrections that might get overlooked. First, he mispronounced twice in the first minute the name of Birkenau. There is no "D" sound in the name. Second, and sadly, the scroll could not have been an Auschwitz scroll because it would have been destroyed by the SS upon arrival. It certainly could not have been maintained in the shape I saw in the pictures. Third, and this is simply a personal request, I have my doubts to the descendancy of the man in the video but please edit the post to take out "The Jew" and replace it with "The Jewish man" or something as this could be construed as offensive to the Jewish people. Thank you.

"It's not him, it's the King within Him."

I know nothing of Eddie Long but that one line can easily show that the King being referenced was not Eddie himself but the King within.
