"World-Wide" Evangelist Shows How to Handle a Talker in the Audience

Below is one of my new favorite preacher videos.

Readers, I introduce you to Mr. Larry Smith, traveling evangelist, sole proprietor of the "Larry Smith World-Wide Ministries".

By "world wide", I think Larry means "KJV churches mostly in northwest Indiana, and small churches like those where Ergun Caner now preaches".

In the clip below, from Larry's January 20th sermon at First Baptist Hammond, Larry yells at, and attempts to humiliate some man who is apparently talking in the audience. Watch this. It is classic. Notice the fake smile, and his inability to ignore the talker. And his sarcastic "Love you"  - and a pronouncement to the talker that "you reap what you sow". I guess in Larry's bible Galatians 6:7 reads, "Do not be deceived. Larry the Evangelist is not mocked. You will reap what you sow." This will make you laugh, then it will make your skin crawl.


You can't tell it from the brief snippet, but this is from Larry's classic sheep-beating tithing sermon that he regularly preaches, entitled "Does Your Wallet Have a Hole In It?" [sadly, I've heard a few SBC pastors preach about God poking holes in your purse] posted at his website. Larry tells people point-blank that the tithe is a debt they owe, they need to tithe on all Christmas gifts received to avoid God's curse on their finances, and real Christians will develop a payback plan to pay God for any income or gifts on which they have not tithed in the past.

Larry might think he is "world-wide"....I think in this video he shows he is more "world-class" - as in world-class horse's patoot.

Although he does tell the young man "I hope to God you're not a Hyles-Anderson student; I hope God not".

Amen, Larry, I hope not either. And if he is, I hope your little tantrum caused him to wake up and get out of Dodge.

  1. I thought this dude looked familiar. He was at First Baptist Hammond, former church of confessed pedophile Jack Schaap. Stuff Fundies Like covered him last month.

  3. Let me get this right. He believes that the man is being rude by interrupting his sermon. So he yells at him and tries to humiliate him in public (being more rude than the talker). And then hopes that the same thing happens to him one day. Is that an example of the golden rule?

  4. I notice on his about page, he knew and admired Lester Roloff.

    I grew up in a IFC and had Lester Roloff in our home. I did not like the man nor his tactics. His home fro girls was nothing but cruel to these girls, but...not even Lester would say such a thing to someone in the audience. I too would have got up and walked out. This is an example of abuse and I wouldn't tolerate it.

  5. These guys like to use their "office" of a bishop, and their "authority" as a "man of Gawd", to obtain money from people by threatening them with a curse.

    Here is the definition of extortion:
    the crime of obtaining money or some other thing of value by the abuse of one's office or authority.

    Here is what the bible says about extortioners:


    1 Corinthians 6:

    9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

    10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor EXTORTIONERS, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

    THIS PREACHER IS THE ONE THAT SHOULD BE AT THE ALTER, REPENTING OF EXTORTION! But since they will not likely repent, then we must obey the bible when it comes to these men:

    1 Corinthians 5:11
    But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

    Come out of these synogogues of Satan, and follow Christ outside of the satanic nicolaitan institution!

  6. You just have to love how these guys like to name their ministries after themselves. What ever happened to, "I must decrease, but He (Jesus) must increase."?

  7. Sounds like he is trying to imitate Jack Hyles. This is wrong on a few levels: 1. You just needlessly offended someone over something minor.let the gospel offend and not your foolishness. 2.How do you know what he was talking about during your sermon wasn't important? 3. People come to church because they want to they don't have to be there so at leaat give them some respect. Why not a blanket statement like "don't miss this", "look this way" or check it out...??

  9. You have to love all the hypocrits that said, "Amen!" when he rebuked this young man. I bet these same hypocrits wouldn't have said anything if he did that to their son.

  10. People listen to this because they are unfortunately just plain stupid. Just watch any Benny Hinn "crusade" and the place is usually packed out.I don't understand it.Absolutely no common sense.

  12. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Grouping Ergun Caner with Jack Schaap is idiotic. You obviously aren't familiar with the different divisions and beliefs amongst Baptists. Maybe you should study, learn, and try understanding things before you try to comment on them.

    Also, this is a well worn out video. Find a real story. Do some real writing. Start a real blog.

    I rarely come back to this blog any more because of how trite it has become. Looks like I won't be coming back any more.

  16. Amazing! You shouldn't yell at people when you are trying to get them to give more money! I attend a non-denominational church! The tactics are the same no matter what kind of church you attend. Right now is income tax return time and many churches want some of that money!! I don't believe in tithing but my church teaches it! They're very, very careful HOW they teach it, but the end result is still the same--ten percent going to their church BEFORE any bills are paid. They never say directly that you will be cursed, but they may tell stories about how God caused something to happen to someone which ended costing them the amount the neglected to pay in tithes! They reference Malachi 3 and say you aren't under God's blessings fully unless you tithe. They also used Abram's and Jacob's tithe as examples. They do not reference the law at all, except for Mal. chapter 3. We even had Robert Morris come to our church on several occasions. I do believe these preachers know better, but THEY WANT YOUR MONEY!!! It saddens and angers me how God's people are being abused for money!! IT angers me how Scripture is twisted for financial gain! Keep up the good work, Watchdog!

    My sister was a member of FBC Hammond, Indiana, I know all about the corrupt Hyles/Schaap dynasty, and I've wrote about them on my blog.

  19. RE: Lester Roloff. I once heard him yell at the girls, during a sermon when he had said something funny, "Stop laughing! I'll tell you when to laugh!"

  20. Preachers like this guy are the reason I quit going to church and the reason I will never go back and allow myself to be used, abused, and ripped off. Controlling, domineering, arrogant--who does he think he is? I bet he couldn't make it in the real world so he started this "ministry" (if you can even call it that). The only way he can make a living is because the sheeple are to stupid to kick him out the back door-- they deserve what they get.
