"Listen to me carefully, I'm going to say something very strong: Any person that doesn't tithe is arrogant, because you believe you can make it your way and not doing it God's way. And you HAVE to be arrogant to steal from God. You have to be extremely arrogant to steal from God. And please understand if you don't tithe, that's an open door to demons...and I don't say that to make you feel condemned or to argue about tithing. And no matter how many doors you close in your life, if you're not a tither, you've got an open door to the 'enemy'." Robert Morris 9/30/13"
------------------------------
If it wasn't bad enough already with Robert Morris telling Christians everywhere they must tithe to "rebuke the devourer", to avoid divorce, to protect your kids - now Robert Morris has thrown down the gauntlet. Now non-tithers are thieves - they're arrogant, AND they are subject to demon possession.Yes, demon possession. You know, an "open door" to demons. Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
This sort of nonsense from Morris - this abuse, really is what it is - declaring Christians at his church to be thieves, that they are arrogant (look at the video and his finger pointing - just who is the most arrogant person in his massive auditorium?) - that no matter how good they are in other areas of their Christian life if they don't fork over 10% they are still subject to little devils ruining their lives - is so laughable given that Gateway markets themselves as being "all about people":
Really? "All about people"? Robert Morris loves "people"? What sort of a man tells his congregation that the 80% of them that don't tithe (probably more) are arrogant and criminals and will have opened themselves to demons entering their lives? That isn't love. What sort of a madman tells Christian people looking for spiritual hope that because they can't give 10% of their income that their resources will be consumed by some unseen "devourer"?
And his finger-pointing, and his emphasis: "Listen to me very carefully, I'm going to say something very strong..." And his emphasis of the primacy and urgency of this single matter of tithing in a person's life by saying "No matter how many doors you close in your life, if you're not tithing..."
To Robert, there is nothing more important in a Christian's life, nothing that will determine your life's outcome, than how much money you give.
Robert, let me tell you something. Read carefully, this is very strong: You are abusing the people of your church. You should be ashamed. I wished that people just heard you and laughed it off and smiled and dismissed your claims as fairy tales. But I hear grown men on the video amen'ing your nonsense so I know many are taking you seriously.
You've turned the "good news" into very, very bad news.
Robert, that morning you were the most arrogant man in the church building. Look in the mirror, Robert. YOU are the arrogant one.
And I dare say perhaps YOU and your family members who draw fat salaries from the offerings of these people you are abusing with your yarns are more apt to be seen as thieves.
But I will stop short of claiming your false teaching has opened a door to the devils and demons and devourers - I wouldn't ever stoop that low, Robert.

sounds like Gaines telling folks they are driving stolen cars to church if they aren't, forking 10 percent over to the storehouse. I cannot for the life of me see how the people put up with this stuff.
Looks like Robert Morris needs more money for his pockets and projects and the sheeple aren't forking it over as fast as he would like. This is why I quit church and will never go back. Morris is a slick flock fleecer and from the looks of the congregation many of them love to be fleeced by this hireling. Sad and hard to watch.
In defense to Mr. Morris, I truly believe, that he believes, this teaching is true and is how the church is to give. This sort of teaching has been around for a long time (see Mr. Russell Kelly's book about the "tithe"). I can understand where Mr. Morris is coming from as this is what I was taught growing up. If not for the grace of God who graciously showed me (and freed me up on the inside) the error of this teaching, I would still be giving with a fearful, anxious, and sometimes angry attitude. Not because God did not provide for me and my family's needs (He still is providing for us), but because it was more about me and my works. The focus should have been on Christ and the freedom that He purchased on the cross for me. Now I give because I want to; not because I have to. There is nothing I can ever do that will make God love me more. Period!
A church I recently visited told his congregation to keep their money if they were going to give it in a begruding manner. He also did not want anyone to give out of compulsion, but rather, he wanted them to give with cheerfulness as this is what God wants. People, please do not let anyone steal your freedom in Christ. Give because you love God and you want others to know Him also. We all should share out of the goodness that God has supplied for all of us. Let God guide you by His Holy Spirit.

I often wonder: do these guys actually believe these stories about the tithe being a magical ingredient to success? They can't, unless they've been brainwashed. There is absolutely zero evidence that it is true. None. It is NOT true that people who don't tithe - for whatever reason - are not blessed, or that they are cursed, etc.
So I believe that they would not pass a lie detector test if they were asked if they believe what they preach about tithing. No way.
Would suggest writing Geoffrey Cohen the Messianic minister associated with him and Gateway on this issue. Messianic Jews that I know state that tithing is subject to only the Temple and Israel.
Sad, so sad, that good people choose to be berated and humiliated at the feet of a rich man! Why don't they walk out and never come back?
There is an ENTIRE Bible to preach from, with an endless list of approaches to use.
I can't accept that the Holy Spirit leads guys to preach THIS MANY messages on tithing/giving.
Guide folks to spiritual health and everything else will take care of itself!
I tithe and I am blessed. I have good health, good marriage, and my car is running real good. I know why...God promises to rebuke the enemy off my car and marriage and refrigerator. Watchdog, you have said repeatedly that you do not tithe. I want to know.."Why did Mac haul you in court?" Or was it Mac? Could it be that God brought you in the "earthly" courtroom as a warning before you go to the "heavenly" courtroom. HE will judge the greedy and the thieves. Get your hand off the computer and get it on your checkbook and get right with God.
I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. I am so scared of demons coming after me.
Rich, FYI I have read some deliverance books that actually teach this in regards to tithing. Morris may be referring to their teaching. Eric Hill is actually one in the deliverance ministry that does not teach this and states that it is exploitation.
Gotta go for the 17,000 sq ft house and beat Furtick. Certainly God cant be blessing him More than Robert or that would mean his message was wrong!?!
THats what theyve reduced the gospel to...and thats why ya gotta shine the light! Kudos WD :)
To Robber...err...Robert Morris:
STICK IT!!!!!!

Sounds like a great God. I want my health and wealth too. Where do I sign up?
Pretty sure neither Jesus nor the disciples ever told anyone they cast demons out of "now go start tithing so this won't ever happen again."

Really? Where does God promise “to rebuke the enemy off my car and marriage and refrigerator? Don’t remember anything in the Bible about a “car” or “refrigerator.”
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that you tithe, please give and give some more. However, does the fact that things are going good in the material realm mean that things are just as good in the spiritual? By correlation, do own the same car you have always owned? The same refrigerator? If not, why did you replace them? I assume by “good marriage” you still have the same wife you started with.
Which is exactly why I don't go to this church, anymore. Robert's "followers" are just as condescending and spiteful. I know a person who was facing foreclosure and when she confided in a church member, that person sent her pictures of homeless lady saying this is what she would look like. I saw the emails. There are several other examples of this, but I'm trying to conserve space here.
Construction workers were being blackballed from work for speaking out about working conditions during the construction of the new church. I saw a woman who couldn't feed her children being reduced to tears by their browbeating. I was told I needed mental health counseling because I was concerned about the state of affairs in our nation. I was asked to sign a contract to participate in a church club, which I couldn't get out of (laughable). I found out firsthand how the church works with local police to harass people. If you have a problem the church can't control or "fix," then yes, you are told you're possessed by demons. Been there, done that.
The list goes on. They prey on vulnerable people going through a difficult time. You figure, This must be it! It's got God written on it. They say they're all about people! Surely, I must be reading this wrong. It must be ME who is the problem. All of these wonderful people really care about what I'm going through. I was told I was a part of their "family."
There is absolutely nothing worse than looking up to someone as a friend and then finding out not only do they not care about you, they were actively working behind the scenes to try to destroy you. Why? Because you know exactly what they are all about, and it sure isn't people.
Finally I realized, this wasn't really a House of God after all. It wasn't supposed to hurt to be a part of something that was supposed to make me feel better about facing the world.
It's a manipulation; a manipulation to control you and get your money. I didn't want it to be the case, but it is. One of the worst examples out there.
And no watchdog, I don't think the pastors believe any of what they say. It's a show and a paycheck and the chance to be a big shot. That's about it.
Robert Morris used to be associate pastor at a charismatic church I visited a few times. I remember one weekend was his last time there as he was starting his own congregation. I guess the pull of being in charge of the funds were just too appealing.

Sad but true.
Our Pastor tells the congregation that if they don't tithe, they don't love God. He says he tithes, which I do believe he does, BUT...The church makes his house payment. his electric, and his cell phone, Gas, and his IRA.
I think everyone one on here is looking for an excuse to not give to God what's God's, those were Jesus's words not pastor Robert's. Also the bible says that God will rebuke the devourer for our sake. There are many scriptures that prove the message he is preaching to be true. People just want their ears tickled when they don't want to do what God is telling them to. Pastor Robert knows the blessing and the curses that come with tithing or not tithing and he simply wants his church family to be blessed and isn't scared to tell you the truth. It saddens me how people will hear the truth of scripture and not like What is saying and blame it on the Pastor and try to discredit him but obviously God is pleased because He has entrusted him with so much.
To anonymous who posted on June 8 at 3:01 PM: If there are "many scriptures that prove the message he is preaching to be true," why don't you explain them? If you cannot, then you are sadly just repeating what you want to believe or have been taught. No one wants to discredit a "pastor." But if that pastor diminishes the Truth with false doctrine - it must be exposed. We are not under a curse as believers...we have the Spirit of Jesus Christ within us if we are "born again" believers: Gal 4:5-6,"...that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Also: Galatians 3:13
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole." Why would a pastor tell a believer that God would put them under a curse or allow a demon to possess them if they are already indwelled by Christ and already redeemed from the curse? We can't be put under the curse of the law again. This is the NEW COVENANT. Robert Morris is muddying up the beauty of the gospel. He makes God out to be a tyrant and extortionist. The beauty of the gospel that is in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and what He did for us is lost in Morris' abuse of OT teaching and imposing the law on believers. We are redeemed through the work of Jesus Christ ---- we are not under a curse, nor can we redeem ourselves by our own works.

Scripture teaches that a believer is adopted in Christ, sealed with the Holy Spirit and an heir. It also teaches that "if any man be in Christ, behold he is a new creature, old things have passed, ALL THINGS become new." I added the emphasis in caps to make a point. There is a lot of teaching on family curses, etc., but Scripture doesn't support that teaching - in the NT gospel of Jesus Christ. The NT teaches that we are adopted into an inheritance through Christ...so then how would we be subject to our "generational" curses- which is similar to the teaching that demons have some authority in our lives. It would be impossible for us to be under these supposed curses or demons as believers who are indwelled by the Holy Spirt, New Creatures in Christ. It does say that "all things become new."
It also teaches that we are "seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus." We have a beautiful salvation if we look at the work of Jesus Christ. Pastors like Morris want us to look at our own works and he says he doesn't want to condemn but there is no way you cannot be condemned if you are relying on your own works to be right with God. Our righteousness, as it's written says "is like filthy rags."
Morris uses manipulation, fear, and mind control to fleece his flock. They sit there and eat it up. Like taking candy from a baby.... Sad but true.
They applaud at everything he says no matter how ludicrous. He is obsessed with demons and money. Maybe he has a couple of demons in him. He is more of a cult leader than a pastor.
Gateway has a $100 million dollar plus annual budget....Have to keep fueling that beast with his fear and threats of curses. Do we have a loving savior or vengeful cursing God....Which is it Robert???
Check out the multi million dollar mansion in Possum Kingdom paid for with the curse tithes....While you are not paying your mortgage and electric bill Robert Morris is leading the blessed life.
Gateway Chruch,,,,,were all about the money.....
You all have no idea what you are talking about. This is not a name it and claim it gospel, and Robert Morris is exactly right. If you think that tithing is Old Testament and that you need not be under the law, you don't understand tithing. Listen to the whole series on the blessed life and see if you still think the same thing. I attend his church. Gateway Church IS all about people. You have no idea what the church does with money, and probably don't know that Robert "tithes" 20% and gives away another 50%, living on just 30% of what he earns. And he does earn it. If you don't tithe, you ARE stealing from God, since he says the tithe belongs to him, and that's pretty arrogant in my opinion. Come worship with us. See what we're all about. Maybe you'll find what you're looking for. I did. I found JESUS at the heart of EVERY message.
"Give money to my ministry and God will give money to you." There is no greater conflict of interest.
I thank God for people like Robert Morris who will boldly state the facts that come strIght from the Bible about what we are suppose to submit to and disciple others to do so, so we can live for God and not the worldly things. If you have a hang up with tithing it
is because you have a hang up with surrendering and Gods authority. My feeling is who do you think supplies you with all you have or who you have become? 10% is asking nothing for the price God paid for us, his one and only begotten son. Thank You so Much Robert Morris for being bold enough to speak the truth no matter the persecution you would receive. Stephanie Spitz
This guy is a plain thief! He wants tithes so he can pay for his numerous properties all over the state. He's no better than Jim Baker.
