Yet Another "Man of God" - This Time a Calvinist - Secretly Video Taping Christian Women in the Church Bathroom

Well, up in the corn fields of Indiana, we have yet another "Man of God" arrested for his video voyeurism.

Readers, meet Robert Lyzinga, a reformed/Calvinist pastor of the Sunrise Christian Reformed Church in Lafayette, Indiana (their website is down as of this writing). Robert's church is part of the Christian Reformed Church of North America, a Calvinist denomination of about 1100 churches. You can see Robert's church's entry here in the CRCNA church database.

Robert's arrest has been nationwide news; here is one of the more complete news stories.

What is it with these pastors getting their jollies from videotaping women - women in their own churches that God has supposedly "appointed" them to have pastoral authority over?

First we had Tom Neal - a KJV-fundamentalist Baptist - accused of videotaping women undressing in his office. He was stupid enough to actually video tape himself turning on and turning off the device.

Then last fall we had Sammy Nuckolls - a Southern Baptist Evangelist - arrested for using a spycam to secretly videotape women - even the wife of his best friend. He was brazen enough to set up his spy pen in the bathroom of a woman's house he was staying with - and he got caught. By the way, if you haven't seen this recent news report of one of Nuckolls' victims speaking out, watch this report to see just how sick Nuckolls truly is.

So we have A KJV-fundamentalist Baptist, an SBC Evangelist, and now in Robert Lyzinga we have a reformed Calvinist! Yes, Robert came up with the bright idea of hiding cameras in phony air-freshener installed right smack dab on the bathroom stall doors to film the women in his church going to the bathroom! He too was caught red-handed when the phony air freshener fell off, the camera was exposed, and investigators saw footage of Robert's office and desk filmed on the camera. Robert obviously was not a reader of the Watchdog, else he would have seen the mistake that Tom Neal made and would have avoided capturing incriminating footage of his own desk as he set up the cameras.

So church members, watch out. One thing I've noticed over the years is churches attract a lot of weirdos who might be doing similar things as these pastors, but who are much too smart to get caught. If we have three pastors that have been caught red-handed video taping their own church members, how many other pastors and other nuts in churches are doing the same thing with these tiny, inexpensive cameras? How many were caught and NOT reported? How many have yet to be caught?

Finally, I leave you with this quote from the news report of Lyzinga's arrest:
"Clevenger [church deacon] called Lyzenga’s arrest a shame, but noted that the pastor was once a great leader for the congregation.

'Pastor Bob did a lot of good while in service to this church,” he said. “He was a good pastor and a good man.' "
Such fond memories they will have of "Pastor Bob" and all the "good" he did. What is sad is this is the same thing I heard a former member of Trinity Baptist say about child molester Bob Gray after his arrest: that people were too quick to overlook all the good that Pastor Gray accomplished before he was arrested.

Yes, people do tend to forget all the good that the "men of God" do when they turn out to be perverts molesting boys and girls or secretly video taping nude women.

People except the church members and deacons who were under the pastor's spell for so long, of course.

Off Topic:

Readers - just received word that the Wartburg Watch will likely be down for the weekend as they work to resolve the issues they are having with their site.

Dee has asked that we pray for them as they work to get their site back up and running.

Time to clean out the churches. This makes me sick. This type of behavior leads to more battered sheep and turns people away from Christ. Who is holding our pastors accountable? Come on, now!

Praying for the lovely DDs at TWW as they deal with their broken blog :(

The reality is that we really don't know who most people are. The majority of people wear a mask. That iz, until the mask falls off and reality sets in to who people really are. Some will chose to believe what they see or deny it. The majority usually choses to deny what they are seeing. They prefer to continue in the fantasy. Whether it is inside the church or outside the church.

What? He wasn't an Arminian? What in the world is going on. Sin is rampant. Wicked evil sinful creature. If what he has done is true it doesn't make the truth of Calvinism false. What it proves is that he is a totally depraved sinner just like you and me, let us hope he is repentant? He could be a spurious convert for all we know, only God knows for sure, with each one of us for that matter. You are an anti-Calvinist like many other folks aren’t you and you need to take some serious time out and study the truth claims of Calvinism before you pass from this life into the next eh. You can start here Bro and take it slow and steady with much humility and prayer eh: Calvinism From The World's Largest Theological Directory. Even Mr Wade Burleson should be using it if he is totally committed to he truth? He is isn’t he?

Here is something of great interest to one and all: Why Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel Produce So Many Calvinists

Watchdog, what does the fact that his denomination is Calvinist have to do with anything? Wolves are to be found in all denominations.

Anonymous said...

Here is what gets me. This is a crime and was totally premeditated. I mean you gotta think this one through, buy equipment, install it, test it out, etc. Then you gotta sneak and watch the footage.

And he was a good pastor who did a lot of good?

This is more like it: He was an imposter and pervert that you, as a deacon, weretoo stupid to discern. Guess that title blinded you.

I'm confused, because Steve Gaines says that we should cover "that" sin?

What was the point of putting this story on this blog when it's already in the news. Are you trying to scare people away from the church?

FBC Jax Watchdog said...

Anon 9:15 - you stated my point exactly.

Anon 10:55 - not trying to scare anyone, just wanting to make sure the word gets out to as wide an audience as possible. Just doing my part!

I understand. The word should get out.

His being a Calvinist IS his excuse for such sin. The free will perverts have no excuse.

As a Calvinist he remains totally depraved AFTER salvation and being a new creature in Christ. So, his sin is to be expected as he is totally depraved. Calvinism is the best of both worlds. You can be saved and remain totally depraved. You are not responsible for your sin or your obedience. Jesus already "obeyed" for you on the cross. He "imputed" it to you on the cross. Justification and sanctification are the same thing in Calvinland.

Just hide the silver when the Calvinists come for Sunday lunch. REmember, their hearts remain wicked and totally depraved after salvation.

Oh, and Calvinists always tell you that you just don't understand it or you would be one. (That is gnosticism, friends)

"Are you trying to scare people away from the church?"

Are you suggesting that people should not be scared away from churches where the pastor has a camera installed in the women's restroom so he can watch them?

Hmmm. The pew sitters can be just as scary.

"What it proves is that he is a totally depraved sinner just like you and me, let us hope he is repentant"

He cannot repent unless God allows it if he is a Calvinist and totally depraved after salvation. God made him be a pastor who is a peeping Tom. Total depravity in Calvinism means "total inability".

Don't forget to read the codes of Geneva under Calvin's Petit Council. They even regulated the courses Genevans could have with meals.

And then read about Calvin ordering "green wood" so Servetus would burn slower. You can find the reference to that in Leonard Verduin's Step Children of the Reformation researched with a grant from the Calvin Foundation.

That Calvin. Wonder why his doctrine did not change is behavior? Perhaps he was just a man of his time. Sort of like Driscoll is now.

Many of you who deny the doctrines of grace, and try to legitimize your argument by pointing out the example of Calvin and Servetus, should remember that the free will doctrine that you hold was also held by the Roman Catholic institution that has murdered millions of Christians over the centuries. So the guilt by association that you are trying is hypocritical on that point. That said, the religious institution today has been so infiltrated by Satanic counterfeits that it seems God is removing His children all over this country.

People are already are "scared" away from church due to its hypocrisy and unloving people.

Sammy Nuckolls had access to an audience of over 50,000 girls ages 11-18 during his career speaking regularly for Lifeway-FUGE, D-Nows and Gateway TX. The Olive Branch Police gave Sammy four days to hide or destroy all evidence not on his laptop seized in Gosnell, AR. The "known" tapes span almost 5 years. How many girls do you think he really taped??

Sounds like you are serving Calvin not Christ.
Of course there are truths in Calvinism such as Sovereignty of God and that Christ keeps those that are His, just as there are the truths of free will. I do not espouse Roman Catholicism because of their works based salvation and I do not espouse Calvinism because of its fusing justification with sanctification. Both are wrong because they are man based and man centered.
I stick with the Word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to teach me.

Wow:

Lafayette has become a much more interesting town than it was when I lived there in the mid-1990s.

On a lighter note, over at The Steam Tunnel, we’re acting as a sort of triage unit during the time period that The Wartburg Watch is down, so please feel free to head over there and leave a message of encouragement for Dee and Deb, and feel to speculate about whether you believe sabotage is involved or not. I definitely have my opinion about what happened, and we’re going to follow this thing as far as it will go.

The Steam Tunnel

Thanks, Tom!

Now that is a good one! Had not heard that before.

But the problem for Calvin, according to his own doctrine, is that God made him have Servetus arrested when he came to hear Calvin preach and subsequently burn him at the stake.
That is "Calvinism".

The problem for Calvinists is that they rely on mystery because it makes God evil when taken to it's logical conclusions.

But it is a great man made religion to get rabid young followers. Because they have "special knowledge" others don't.

The Catholics and SBC hold to the same theory of believing faith in atonement. The RC theory is demonstrated by baptismal regeneration and the SBC theory demonstrated by decisional regeneration. Both obtained by sinner's consent.

And Calvinist have the same sort of "deterministic" god in common with the Islamic god.

Contrary to the RC and the SBC theory of atonement is a limited/particular atonement absent a sinner's consent. Neither decision nor baptism contribute to the application of saving grace in regeneration.

Regeneration, justification and glorification are fixed in eternity past. Sadly this should be Calvinism, however a universal hypothetical atonement has invade the modern Calvinist views and far removed from the Biblical doctrine of grace.

As a Calvinist who believes in TULIP, and always will, I am appalled at what widespread corruption and sin has taken over the leadership and what the church has become.

Abuse is widespread, sexual sins are being uncovered and is an epidemic. I agree with a commenter who said that God is cleaning up the church by exposing all the above. If it keeps people from church, I can't say I blame them.

Anonymous said...

Who cares what his theology is? If guilty, he's a pervert posing as a "man of God"-whatever that is. People should be warned that people are not always what they seem-esp. at church, since you can't be your real self there, in my experience. You must hide your sins-which, I guess, is what he was doing.

I wonder if they ever had the testimony time where people tell how awful they used to be before God saved them. Well, do you think anybody stands up and says, "I used to secretly spy on women in the church bathroom." I don't think so. There are acceptable sins and unacceptable sins.

Anonymous said...

I agree Calvinism has nothing to do with this. The fact that it was even mentioned says more about the person posting than the pervert himself.

Remember these remarks for the Fuge concerning .....

Sammy Nuckolls shares about his FUGE experience:
by Fuge Office
"My FUGE experience began in the summer of 1995 when a local youth pastor invited me to attend the camp. At first I did not want to go to a church camp but he told me it was in Panama City Beach, Florida. My attitude changed from hesitation to excitement. It was at that FUGE camp where the Lord changed my life. The Lord used different staffers, especially my Bible study leader Natasha Shell, along with a college student named Brad Solomon to explain to me the truth of Christ. This is when I first understood God’s love and the plan He has for my life. For me, FUGE is truly a life changing camp.

Since 1995 I have been involved with FUGE as a camper, youth pastor, and camp pastor. As a camp pastor each week is different and exciting. It has been wonderful watching students and adults encounter Christ and respond to His truth and His greatness. The new Rush of Fools single “Grace Found Me” is a beautiful way to explain what happened to me and what happens to many people each week at FUGE. My mind is flooded with great memories when I think about my years at FUGE. The most rewarding part is seeing students who have surrendered to the Lord still living faithfully years later. This past summer, I was camp pastor at Glorieta, New Mexico for one week, and I distinctly remember meeting a staffer named Allison at the rec circle. She stopped me and just said, “Thank you”. She explained that in 2004 she surrendered her life to the Lord while I was preaching. It was great to see the Lord bringing her full circle in her faith and in FUGE. Both of our lives were changed through this camp. Now we are partnering together to share God’s truth and grace to other students.
FUGE is a unique place where God is at work. I am a testimony of how FUGE is a life changing camp. Everyone should enter the FUGE family!"

notice the comments concerning the woman in the Fuge

"especially my Bible study leader Natasha Shell,"

"I distinctly remember meeting a staffer named Allison at the rec circle."

Its all about

"God’s truth"?

If he is a Calvinist then it means, according to Calvinist doctrine, that God foreordained and decreed him to be a minister who would buy camera equipment and spy on women while being a pastor. After all this pastor is still totally depraved. So what do we expect?

That is what Calvinism teaches. Although most Calvinists do not even know that.

We can hold the free will guys accountable for their perversion because they chose to commit heinous crimes. But not the Calvinists since they remain totally depraved after salvation.

Not sure what SBChurch you are in but been in it 40 years and never once heard that baptism contributes to saving grace or regeneration. It is just a symbol like the Lords Supper.

However, Calvin baptized babies and taught the sacraments (including Lords Supper) as a means of grace..... so you are way out on a twig on this one. If you did not baptize your baby in Calvin's Geneva the magistrates were at your door.

Anon 7:45

In the SB and RC regeneration is according to the will of man and that is manifested in water baptism for the Catholics and a public decision by the SB. Both are conditional by human consent.

You are correct the SB don't hold to baptismal regeneration but they do hold to decisional regeneration.

Anonymous said...

SB regeneration is a Catholic work of salvation minus the water!

Anonymous said...

"You are correct the SB don't hold to baptismal regeneration but they do hold to decisional regeneration."

You mean like Jesus' first command of his ministry:

"Repent" and "believe"?

Anonymous said...

Whenever someone says the SBC is like the Catholic church in doctrine, you know you are dealing with someone living in the 16th century and filtering their scripture reading through the Calvin lens.

Dead giveaway. But then if you listen to them long enough, not even Calvin was a Calvinist!

Too much Calvin. Not enough Jesus in many circles today. (And contrary to YRR beliefs, Calvin and Jesus are not the same thing. Somebody let Mohler and Piper know, please)
